This week we knew we were going to be having company for the weekend, so I went ahead and ordered the next tier up from Milk & Honey Organics…the $50 basket (and I was curious to see the difference between the $35 and $50 tiers). Here’s what we got:
2 hydroponic lettuce heads (yes, you store them on your counter in a bowl of water), a huge pile of parsnips (they’re hiding behind the lettuce right now, but they’ll get their feature debut in an upcoming post, 3 bok choy (stirfry, here we come!), a large bunch of baby spinach, 8 beets (wait till you see what we do with these bad boys), 6 pears, 6 pink lady apples (my favorite variety!), 3 oranges, 2 red onions, 5 yams, 2 shallots, and some blueberries (eating the muffins from yesterday’s breakfast right now, actually).
Wow, this is a LOT of produce! Someone might have to come help me eat it!
Oh, and I have to mention this: we decided to take out the garden boxes and give them to a friend, since we’re selling our house and I don’t think we’ll have time to tend it this year. But…I was mowing the yard yesterday, and as I came to wear the garden was from last year, guess what I found?! 2 big heads of lettuce! One was romaine and the other red leaf. So, we made that into a big salad to go with dinner last night. Needless to say, I still have my hydroponic lettuce to use, so I guess we’ll be eating lots of salad this week. Yeah!
Bryan’s been switching to a night shift schedule, so I’m still figuring out meal planning, since we’re only eating one meal a day together. Hopefully we’ll establish a routine soon.
PS, you can eat the beet greens, as well. Wash them up and add them to a salad or a green smoothie!
WOW that is a lot of great produce!! How exciting to receive all those goodies and then plan what you’re going to do with them : ) When we move back to Greenville I’ll have to consider signing up…
