My Day Off…

I decided to take a day off today because this week was rather exhausting. On top of the time change last weekend, I had to get up an extra hour early each morning so Bryan could drop me off on his way to training (if you missed some previous posts, yes, he started working as hospital security this week)! It’s been a huge praise, and I’m not complaining. I’m so thankful the Lord provided this job, and he thinks he’s going to like it too (which is a huge plus). I’m just worn out. So, I used some of my payed time off for a break day.

We went out to eat with friends last night for St. Patty’s. I got the cuban burger and Rachel got the reuben and we split both of them. The burger was fabulous! We didn’t stay out too late. Bryan and I came home and did some stuff around the house, then I went to bed and he stayed up to try to get on his new night shift schedule. I guess he came to bed about 5. His normal shift is midnight to 8am, so that was a pretty good first night push through. He slept till about 2pm, so I figured I’d do my away-from-the-house errands, so I’d disturb him less.

I woke up about 9am, fixed a cup of lavender early grey tea, and read my Bible and some favorite blogs for a few hours, and did some laundry (btw, I am LOVING my homemade laundry detergent). Then I headed out on my errand spree. I started with Big Lots to pick up Bryan’s new favorite granola bar (Nature’s Path Organic Peanut Buddy). I stopped by TJMaxx to pick up Rachel’s bday gift, then headed to Lowe’s for a part for the mower.

I finished the morning with a late lunch at Everyday Organic. I had the chicken salad sandwich on spelt bread with French Potato Salad and iced tea (I love the chicken salad; I think I’ll stick with the quinoa side salad next time though). Then I stopped by the school my sister works at to see her and pick up some eggs from one of the teachers there who raises them. They’re the most beautiful eggs! They come in all kinds of pastel colors and he sells them for only $2/dozen.

I stopped by Publix for some last minute items for dinner and also found the oil mister I’d been wanting (and it was only $10)! Now I can pour my organic olive oil in and not have to spend $4-5/can on the Organic Pam spray. Yeah!

I made sure the part I bought would fit, then I changed and wrapped Rachel’s gift quickly before heading to Coffee & Crema (my favorite coffee shop EVER) to meet Rachel for her bday coffee! We realized that we both get off early most Fridays, so we may just have to make Coffee & Crema a routine (at least once a month or so).

After coffee, I headed home and mowed the front lawn, took an cool, refreshing shower, and then helped Bryan finish dinner preparations. His brother and his family are in town this weekend, so they stopped by. Bryan made chicken and I made a big salad with organic romaine, carrots, pears, tomatoes, leeks, cauliflower, sunflower seeds and slivered almonds. It was awesome with the chicken on top!

I loaded up a bag of groceries for Chad & Julie, so they would have breakfast tomorrow, and then packed Bryan’s “lunch” for night shift and cleaned the kitchen. I need to finish making some jewelry before going to bed, so I can mail it in the morning. Then I need to go to bed. It’s been a long day, but it was so fun! And it’s only Friday, so I get to enjoy two more days off before heading back to work. Monday will be my first day of full-time training on the new job! So excited for the change!

My goal is to have Blueberry Popovers made by the time he gets home in the morning. Then he can eat and go to bed while I head out to finish weeding and mowing the backyard. I also need to squeeze in filing, taxes, and balancing the checkbook at some point this weekend.

I am also looking forward to spending some girl-bonding time with Julie and playing with the nephews! We’re thinking of having a fabulous green smoothie lunch, and then experimenting for dinner. We got beets and parsnips in the basket this week, so I want to make parmesan parsnips and chocolate beet cupcakes. Chad’s in charge of the meat for tomorrow, and I may make another salad for dinner too.
