The Perfect Smoothie…

I recently came across this post (How To Build The Perfect Meal Smoothie) on the Simply Life blog and loved the thought process that went into it. It’s actually a guest post from a girl named Lindsay who lives in Colorado (I love, love, love Colorado and hope to live there some day too!). Lindsay writes a blog called Summit-Sandwiches.

Here’s her recipe for a perfect “meal” smoothie:

  • 1 cup liquid
  • 1/2 frozen banana + 1/2 cup other fruit
  • 1 serving protein (i.e. 1 scoop protein powder, 2 tbsp nut butter, or 1/2 cup yogurt)
  • 1 tbsp healthy fat (i.e. nut butter, chia seeds, or 1/4 of an avocado)
  • 1 serving complex grains (i.e. 1/4 cup granola, 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup cereal, or 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup rolled oats)
  • 2-3 handfuls of leafy greens
  • ice

And here’s My Recipe:

I freeze my fruit, so I don’t add ice. I pretty much followed her formula tonight and it turned out really good! I combined the following:

Don't forget the lid! Blend, blend, blend!

  • 1 cup non-fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 c. pomegranate raspberry juice
  • 1/2 frozen banana + 1/2 c. frozen pineapple + 6-8 frozen strawberries
  • 1 mango
  • 1 Tbsp. coconut cream + 1 Tbsp. flax seeds
  • 2 handfuls spinach

I blended and poured into 2 large cups (one for now and one for breakfast!). Then I topped each with the following:

  • 1/3 c. oats
  • 1 Tbsp. coconut flakes
  • a drizzle of agave nectar

Don't forget the straw! Yum!!
