Food Safety – Don’t leave out for more than 2 hours to avoid food borne illnesses. If you’re having a picnic outdoors, the time food should be away from refrigeration may be even shorter. Keep meats, dairy, and mayonaise based salads chilled until ready to serve and put back in the cooler right away after serving.
Watching Your Intake – If you know you’re grilling out and all that will be served is hot dogs and hamburgers, bring along a ziploc of sliced squash, eggplant, or portabello mushrooms drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with salt and pepper and ask the griller to throw them on alongside. Stick with the watermelon and fresh berries instead of the fat-laden desserts. Try angel food cake and Cool-whip instead of ice cream and a denser cake.
Get Active – play in the pool or toss a frisbee, but burn off those extra calories.
Fireworks Safety – Enjoy the show! And watch your eyes and fingers!
